GE Wind Turbine Technician III
Onsite Wind Site
Shelburne, ON
This Wind Tech III role is a senior, hands-on wind turbine technician position at a GE wind site in Shelburne, Ontario, focused on advanced troubleshooting, performance optimization, and informal site leadership/mentorship, paying roughly CAD 35–43 per hour plus full benefits and potential relocation support.
Role focus
- On-site technical SME: Acts as the senior technical specialist on a GE-platform wind farm, dealing with complex turbine issues and supporting overall fleet reliability and availability.
- Field-based, fully onsite in Shelburne, ON, with some travel (about 10%) to assist neighboring wind sites.
Key responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis on offline turbines, then execute or direct repairs to safely return them to service.
- Analyze turbine performance data to identify issues and plan corrective work, ideally during scheduled maintenance windows rather than reactive stops.
- Ensure all hardware, software, and wiring changes follow customer and engineering-approved configurations and standards.
- Perform / oversee quality checks on work done by other technicians and contractors to ensure high workmanship standards.
- Identify, propose, and help implement retrofits or upgrades that improve production and availability across the site.
- Support annual maintenance planning with site leads and Field Manager, including scheduling and resource prioritization.
- Use the site’s CMMS to create/close work orders, track inspections, and manage parts usage and inventory.
- Assist with operational and technical reporting when needed and communicate clearly with site leadership and the customer.
- Maintain and model a strong safety culture, including Lock Out Tag Out procedures and “stop work” authority when conditions are unsafe.
- Continuously build technical knowledge on the site’s equipment and mentor junior/developing techs in electrical safety, troubleshooting, and maintenance best practices.
Required qualifications
- At least 5 years of hands-on energy generation and site operations experience, with some leadership exposure.
- Direct GE wind turbine platform experience (this is mandatory, not just generic wind).
- Demonstrated experience doing root cause analysis on equipment failures, not only fixing symptoms.
- Willingness to travel about 10% of the time to help other wind sites in the region.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to interface with customers and coordinate work with site leadership.
- Comfortable using and interpreting test equipment and OEM/manufacturer documentation to guide diagnostics and maintenance.
- Proven ability to lead small projects, assign tasks, and prioritize work safely and efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving mindset; able to coach and mentor other techs.
Compensation and benefits
- Hourly rate: CAD 35–43, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Full benefits package (details not listed but typically medical, dental, etc.).
- Relocation assistance available if the candidate is moving to the Shelburne, ON area.
Fit check
This role is ideal if you:
- Already have GE wind platform experience and want to step into (or continue in) a senior technician/technical lead track.
- Enjoy being the go-to expert for complex troubleshooting, data-driven performance analysis, and mentoring junior techs.
- Are comfortable being in the field most of the time, climbing turbines, and owning safety standards day-to-day.
