Job Title: Systems Operator

Salary Range: CAD$82,000.00 – CAD$90,000.00

Working Type: On-Site

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The System Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of automated warehouse and material handling systems in a 24/7 mission-critical environment. This role monitors and controls automation platforms, responds to system incidents and alarms, coordinates with cross-functional teams, and supports business continuity to meet operational performance, safety, and service level objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Automation System Operations & Performance Management

Operate, monitor, and optimize automated warehouse systems including ERP, WCS, and SCADA.

Understand and manage end-to-end operational flows across production, logistics, inventory, planning, and crate wash.

Ensure automation system flows meet service levels, throughput targets, and on-time delivery requirements.

Analyse system data, alerts, dashboards, and logs to identify performance issues and improvement opportunities.

Support system testing, validation, and controlled operational changes.

  • Incident Response, Troubleshooting & Business Continuity

Respond promptly to system alarms, alerts, and trouble calls to maintain uptime.

Clear conveyor system jams and address automation-related incidents safely and efficiently.

Apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques to diagnose and resolve issues.

Act as technical lead during incidents, communicating impact, status, and recovery steps.

Execute BCP, MIMP, and PIR processes and escalate issues beyond scope when required.

  • Technical Support & Cross-Functional Coordination

Coordinate with operations, maintenance, IT, and automation engineering teams.

Support diagnostics, log analysis, testing, and technical recommendations.

Interpret mechanical and electrical components, drawings, and operational documentation.

Follow instructions from control room operators, technicians, and supervisors.

Support SOP documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Safety, Compliance & Workplace Standards

Comply fully with company safety policies, including PPE and LOTO procedures.

Identify, report, and mitigate workplace safety hazards and risks.

Maintain housekeeping standards around automation systems.

Demonstrate professional conduct, strong communication, and flexibility in a 24/7 environment.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.

Essential

KEY EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Ability to work in cold environment (0° to 2° C)

3+ years of experience in warehouse or operations environments

Experience supporting 24/7 mission-critical systems

Experience with SCADA, WCS, and ERP systems

General technical knowledge of conveyor systems

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Ability to interpret technical documentation and drawings

Familiarity with incident management and root cause analysis

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to shift priorities based on operational demands

Desirable

Prior experience working in food packaging cold environment

Valid Forklift License or ability to obtain one

Working Conditions

Temperature ‑controlled work environment maintained between 0–2°C

Moderate noise levels due to AGVs, robotic systems, and material‑handling equipment (MHE)

Ability and willingness to wear mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection and cold‑environment PPE
