Position Overview

The Operations Labourer plays a critical role in supporting the seamless execution of natural playground production and installations. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager, this position is designed for a dependable and hardworking professional who can work both independently with minimal supervision and as a part of a small crew while following the direction of and reporting to the Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager.

As an Operations Labourer, you must demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, problem- solving ability, and initiatives to ensure projects, operational tasks, and procurement support activities are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards. The ideal candidate is a proactive, hands-on individual who is comfortable performing physical labour, supporting procurement and inventory processes, operating tools and equipment, and assisting with general site and yard operations as required.

Key Responsibilities

Site Operations & Labour Support

  • Support daily site operations by assisting with installation projects, site preparations, material handling, loading/unloading, and general labour duties.
  • Work independently while following directions from the Operations Supervisor, and Operations Manager ensuring project timelines and objectives are met.
  • Assist in site preparation, equipment setup, and material handling to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Identify and troubleshoot on-site challenges, collaborating with the Operations Supervisor to implement effective solutions.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure installations meet company standards and client expectations.
  • Primary responsibilities include but not limited to sanding, grinding, and finishing wood products.

Installation Operations

  • Assist with assembly and installation of natural playground structures, landscaping elements, and equipment according to project specifications and design plans.
  • Prepare and handle natural materials and construction supplies safely and efficiently.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely and efficiently (training provided), following manufacturer guidelines and company protocols.
  • Perform on-site adjustments and troubleshooting to ensure installations align with project plans and client expectations.

Procurement, Inventory, & Shipping Support

  • Assist with procurement-related tasks including organization, receiving, tracking, and moving materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities by collecting, assembling, packing, labeling, unloading, and storing materials as required.
  • Inspect and verify incoming goods against packing slips, invoices, or other documentation and report shortages or damaged goods to management.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory and material records within company systems, including MRP or other tracking systems as required.
  • Support inventory organization and material staging to ensure operational efficiency and timely project execution.
  • Assist with palletizing, loading, unloading, and preparing materials or goods for transport when required.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all workplace health and safety regulations, actively contributing to a culture of safety on-site.
  • Identify potential hazards and take corrective actions to mitigate risks, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe operating procedures for tools and equipment.

Communication & Coordination

  • Provide regular updates to the Operations Supervisor, Operations Manager regarding project progress, site conditions, and any challenges encountered.
  • Collaborate with the installation and production teams to maintain alignment with project timelines and deliverables.
  • Assist in documenting and reporting site activities, progress, and project updates.
  • Report any safety concerns, hazards, or compliance issues in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in discussions regarding installation progress and any necessary adjustments to installation plans.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in general labour, installation, construction, operations, or related roles.
  • Experience working in landscape construction, construction, horticulture, or related industries is preferred.
  • Physically capable of handling natural materials and operating tools, equipment, and machinery including the ability to lift and move heavy items.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with clients, internal teams, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to travel for projects (*up to 2-3 weeks at a time), *including working Saturdays when required.
  • A valid G license and a clean driver's abstract.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to follow detailed instructions and maintain a clean and safe workspace.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a team-oriented mindset.
