Responsibilities
What does a typical day look like as an Health, Safety, Environment and Security Coordinator?
- Collaborate with the leadership team and employees to promote a strong occupational health and safety culture;
- Organize and lead Health and Safety Committee meetings and follow up on corrective actions;
- Participate in the management of workplace incident and accident claims;
- Conduct inspections, audits, and site visits to verify compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and procedures;
- Participate in the implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety, environment, and security (HSES) programs;
- Support and advise managers and employees on HSES matters;
- Monitor occupational health and safety, environmental, and security management systems;
- Serve as the main point of contact with CNESST and regulatory agencies;
- Conduct or coordinate investigations and analyses of incidents, accidents, and non-conformities;
- Develop, update, and test emergency response plans;
- Identify risks and recommend preventive solutions tailored to operational needs;
- Track corrective and preventive actions;
- Develop and deliver health and safety training programs;
- Establish performance indicators and prepare monitoring reports;
- Participate in the development and implementation of the environmental action plan;
- Ensure compliance with environmental requirements and standards applicable to port operations;
- Contribute to maintaining and improving performance under the Green Marine program;
- Perform any other related duties.
Qualifications
To be successful as an Health, Safety, Environment and Security Coordinator, you must have:
- College diploma (DEC) in Occupational Health and Safety or a related technical field;
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a similar role;
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong computer skills;
- Bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written: Given the diversity of our team and the need to communicate with local, national, and international clients and partners, proficiency in both French and English is required;
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment and meet deadlines;
- Strong autonomy, attention to detail, and rigor;
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
- Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities;
- Excellent communication and customer service skills;
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new applications and technologies;
- Demonstrated motivational and collaborative leadership.
