About the role

The Lab Technician will be responsible for planning and executing molecular and some cellular biology assays, including protein and cell biopanning of phage-display libraries, cloning, and biochemical modifications. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting project progress, assisting with the development and optimization of procedures based on project specifications. The role also involves supporting senior staff through data analysis and routine lab maintenance.

Duties

  • Biopanning of phage-display libraries on protein and cells
  • Perform biochemical modifications of phage-display libraries
  • Independently plan and execute experiments according to given deadlines
  • Perform qPCR/2-step PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, Western Blots
  • Assist with cloning procedures: PCR, restriction digestion, ligation, plasmid extraction
  • Bacterial strain maintenance and electrocompetent cell generation
  • Buffer preparation, autoclaving
  • Experimental data generation, analysis and packaging
  • Assisting with inventory tracking and procurement
  • Other molecular assays as needed

Qualifications

  • BSc in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics, or related field with at least one year of experience in an academic research or industry setting
  • Demonstrated experience independently performing PCR/qPCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, and Western Blots
  • Strong ability to independently plan and execute experiments
  • Experience performing ELISA and Flow Cytometry is considered an asset
  • Prior cloning experience considered an asset
  • Strong data analysis, time management, and organizational skills
  • Experience using SnapGene, R, and MS Office Suite considered an asset
