Verafin - Senior Software Developer (Data Lake Access)
Nasdaq
The Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our Data Lake Access team at Nasdaq Verafin. Reporting to the Director – Software Development, this team builds and operates the unified data access platform at the heart of Nasdaq Verafin's AWS-powered workspace for data and ML workloads. We own the full stack of data access: identity federation, fine-grained permissions, data catalog integration, networking, and infrastructure - enabling developers across the organization to securely discover and query data without managing each AWS service individually.
In this role you will help build and maintain the cloud infrastructure that enables secure, unified access to data across Nasdaq. You will work with cutting-edge AWS technologies, design robust access patterns, and create automation that supports data governance at scale. We work directly with AWS engineering teams, security, networking, and architects to push the boundaries of what the platform can do.
You'll fit right in if you're a problem-solver who loves cloud infrastructure, values security, and scalability, and enjoys collaborating across teams to deliver solutions that make a real impact.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement Terraform infrastructure for AWS data access services - IAM roles, Lake Formation grants, Glue catalogs, KMS, S3, and RDS connectivity.
- Build and maintain federated data catalog integrations (Athena connectors, Glue catalog federation, Lake Formation permissions at scale.)
- Solve complex networking challenges using technologies such as VPC Endpoints, PrivateLink, VPC Lattice, Cloud WAN, and Security Groups.
- Own and improve the security posture of our platform through IAM design, Service Control Policies (SCPs), Identity Center integrations, and data perimeter controls.
- Build automation that streamlines access provisioning and improves the developer experience.
- Drive POC onboarding of enterprise customers, including banks and financial institutions, onto our platform.
- Engage directly with AWS on platform gaps, escalations, and roadmap feedback to solve platform challenges and influence future capabilities.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of software/platform engineering experience with a strong focus on designing and building solutions in AWS.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, including Module development, State management, Reusable infrastructure patterns, and Complex resource dependencies.
- Strong understanding of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), including roles, policies, trust relationships, and permission boundaries.
- Experience building and supporting cloud networking solutions using VPCs, Security Groups, VPC Endpoints, and private connectivity patterns.
- Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Python or Java) with experience building production services.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and security issues and drive solutions independently – thinking about what could go wrong before it does.
- Ability to engage directly with AWS support and engineering teams and translate technical findings into clear written communication.
Nice to have
- Experience with AWS Lake Formation and fine-grained data access controls.
- Familiarity with AWS Glue Data Catalog and federated catalog architectures.
- Experience with IAM Identity Center (AWS SSO) and identity federation.
- Knowledge of EMR Serverless, SageMaker, or large-scale data platforms
This position will be located in St. John's and Toronto and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 3 days a week in-office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
