This work is customer service focused and is comprised of routine typing, clerical work, and reception work. Subsequent to receiving initial instructions, an employee of this class is responsible for the effective performance of recurrent clerical and receptionist duties. Work is checked by a superior for accuracy and conformance to established procedures.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Types from copy, rough draft or general instructions, a variety of materials such as correspondence and reports
  • Provides information and assistance to the public and other departments on matters requiring working knowledge of department procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Processes, checks and maintains a variety of office records, files, reports, statistics, documents and related material
  • Acts as receptionist for the work area by greeting, responding and redirecting customers
  • Operates a variety of standard office software and equipment
  • Performs other related duties as required

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Six (6) months recent experience in a front-line customer service role
  • 50 wpm typing speed
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Beginner proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic
  • Working knowledge of office practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of the applicable regulations, policies, and practices which govern departmental activities
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with members of the public other City staff and elected officials
  • Ability to represent City and Department in a positive, professional manner
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment and software
