Duties

The City of Stratford is seeking a detail-orientated and analytical Compensation and Benefits Coordinator to join our Corporate Services team. Reporting directly to the Manager of Financial Services, this position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll and benefits, all while ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, collective agreements, and internal policies.

Work Performed

  • Managing weekly payroll runs, financial reconciliations, and submissions to the bank.

  • Administering compensation, benefits, and pension programs (OMERS).

  • Maintaining compliance with government legislation and collective agreements regarding payroll and benefits administration.

  • Processing hires, transfers, terminations, and leave adjustments in payroll systems.

  • Coordinating with departments, benefit providers, and external boards.

  • Preparing ROEs, T4s, and other required records and filings.

  • Ensuring payroll and benefit-related general ledger accounts are reconciled.

  • Supporting audits, reporting, and process improvements.

  • Providing expertise and guidance on payroll legislation and collective agreements.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of related payroll and benefits administration experience.

Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications

  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and payroll systems (e.g., Great Plains).

  • Have great attention to detail as well as the ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.

  • Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, CRA regulations, and benefit program administration.
