Cansel Group is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to join our Finance team on an 18-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who enjoys developing teams, driving process improvements, and overseeing a high-volume Accounts Payable function.
Location: British Columbia (preferred)
Start Date: August 17, 2026
Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000
About the Role
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Accounts Payable Manager will lead a team of five Accounts Payable Clerks and oversee the daily operations of the Accounts Payable department. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical AP expertise with a supportive leadership style and a commitment to operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, mentor, and support a team of 5 Accounts Payable Clerks
- Manage day-to-day Accounts Payable operations and workload distribution
- Provide guidance on complex AP transactions and escalations
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented team culture
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
Accounts Payable Operations
- Oversee high-volume invoice processing and payment activities
- Review and approve non-PO invoices in Concur
- Extract and load invoices from Concur into SAP
- Review and approve new vendor setups
- Run bi-weekly payment runs
- Monitor AP aging and vendor balances
- Manage vendor onboarding and banking verification processes
- Resolve vendor inquiries and payment discrepancies
- Process employee expense claims
- Produce AP metrics, KPI reporting, and management reports
- Support internal and external audit requirements
Month-End Responsibilities
- Support month-end close activities and reconciliations
- Review AP-related GL accounts and operating expense accounts
- Post recurring invoices and review journal entries
- Review AP wage and professional services postings
- Maintain fleet-related accounting records
- Monitor outstanding corporate credit cards and follow up with users
- Assist with the preparation of GP files and month-end reporting requirements
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 2 years of people management experience
- Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing Accounts Payable staff
- Strong understanding of end-to-end Accounts Payable processes
- Experience in accounting and Accounts Payable functions
- Experience managing high-volume invoice processing environments
- Experience with month-end close processes, reconciliations, and vendor management
- Experience with ERP systems; SAP experience is strongly preferred (other ERP experience will also be considered)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and reporting
- Experience with EFT, Wire, ACH, and cheque payments
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on operational support
