Position Summary
Prairie Mountain Health is currently seeking family physician(s) or internists to join the Hospitalist group at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Applicants are encouraged to apply for either a full-time position or part-time position. A full-time position is a 1:2 rotation (26 weeks per year) and a part time position is a 1:4 rotation (13 weeks per year). The work week is Monday through to Sunday, on-site from 0800 - 1700 hours. The on-call responsibilities are a minimum average of 3 nights per week of work.
The primary role of the Hospitalist is to care for patients presenting to the hospital requiring inpatient admission who do not have a physician with admitting privileges. In serving as the Most Responsible Physician, you will manage all care including work-up, appropriate referrals, planning discharge and liaising with the community primary care provider. The Hospitalist role offers exposure to a broad scope of acute inpatient medicine while being supported by allied health, specialists services and a collaborative Hospitalist group.
As the second largest city in Manitoba, with an approximate population of 60,000 and growing, Brandon is the main hub and referral site for southwestern Manitoba, with a catchment area of approximately 200,000 people. Brandon Regional Health Centre is a fully accredited multi-specialty facility with 300+ bed capacity and currently undergoing a $110 million-dollar expansion of our inpatient care facilities, expected to be completed by 2026.
Our facility has a 24/7 Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Surgical and Endoscopy Suites. Our on-site diagnostic services include radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine. There is a wide range of specialist services available onsite including pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, anesthesia, general surgery, radiology, nuclear medicine, oncology, orthopedic surgery, urology and internal medicine.
Brandon Regional Health Centre is a satellite campus for the University of Manitoba and the Rady Faulty of Medicine and offers the opportunity to contribute to the teaching/mentoring of medical learners.

- Remuneration is derived from the Independent Contract agreement between the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living and Doctors Manitoba.

Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat diseases and physiological disorders for hospitalized patients
- Prescribe and administer medication and treatment
- Refer patients for surgery or specialists
- Advise patients on health care
- Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues
- Provide acute care management to a diverse inpatient population
- Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment
- Help patients develop healthy habits, break old habits and reshape their approach to wellness
- Examine patients' health condition to identify diseases and injuries
- Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals
- Participate in weekly multidisciplinary rounds to support discharge planning and coordination of care
Credentials
- The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine degree.
- The successful candidate must have CCFP or FRCPC and be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba
- Must be a member of CMPA or provide proof of equivalent malpractice insurance

Additional Information
Security and safety:
- Complete and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate.
- All Health Care workers are required to be immunized as a condition of employment in accordance with the Prairie Mountain Health policy.
The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
