COMPENSATION: $55.56 (IBEW 1003 - Journey Electrician Rate)

LOCATION: On-Site

DAYS: Monday to Friday

HOURS: 7:00 AM - 3:15 PM

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Operations Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of municipal electrical systems and infrastructure. The Operations Electrician ensures the safe and reliable operation of secondary electrical services for the City of Nelson, while adhering to applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements. The Journey Electrician plays a critical role in maintaining infrastructure that supports a low-carbon future and high-quality service delivery.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Journey Electrician with inter-provincial Red Seal certificate
  • Five (5) years of Experience with related equipment, controls, apparatus and protective devices
  • Class 5 Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Class 3 Driver’s License with airbrake endorsement
  • Confined Space Ticket
  • Experience working with an electrical utility environment
  • Familiarity with digital, electromechanical protective devices
  • Level 1 First Aid

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Physical ability to carry out all duties of the position. Ability to operate and utilize underground locating equipment would be an asset.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Able to handle large, bulky and often heavy materials or equipment.
  • Work effectively in a team environment as well as individually.
  • Contribute positively to crew morale.
  • Ability to interact with other employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate all related equipment. Ability to organize own work daily.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with City of Nelson / municipal and WorkSafeBC safety procedures.
