This role will be responsible for preventative maintenance governance, life‑safety compliance oversight, and specialty program management to ensure consistency, regulatory defensibility, and operational efficiency across the Northern Alberta portfolio.

This role provides strategic oversight and coordination for preventative maintenance and regulated inspections, by serving as the program owner and compliance authority for these functions, rather than direct supervision of trade teams.

Responsibilities

Preventative Maintenance Program Governance

• Own the structure, scheduling, and tracking of ULC 536S third party inspections
• Define inspection frequencies, documentation standards, and reporting requirements
• Maintain portfolio‑level visibility of completion, deficiencies, and risk exposure
• Work closely with Services/Contracts administration team

Life Safety & Fire Compliance (Primary Ownership)

• Own the life‑safety compliance program, including:
• Fire alarm systems
• Fire dampers
• Fire alarm monitoring systems
• Emergency lighting and exit signage
• Fire doors and egress components
• Fire extinguishers, fire pumps, fire hoses, hydrants, sprinkler systems
• CO detection systems
• Address Fire Department Inspection reports, ensure deficiency are corrected in a timely manner
• Fire Department Liaison
• Emergency generators
• Coordinate certified inspections required under NBC, NFPA,CSA and ULC standards
• Audit and validate third‑party inspection reports for accuracy, scope, and code alignment
• Prioritize deficiencies based on life‑safety risk and ensure defensible documentation
• Act as the internal subject‑matter reference for life‑safety compliance questions and boundaries around what site staff can and cannot perform

Mechanical Asset Oversight (Non‑Supervisory).

• Maintain asset inventories and lifecycle visibility
• Identify failure patterns and systemic risks and escalate appropriately
• Review inspection findings and contractor scopes for consistency and necessity

Contractor Review & Cost Control

• Validate invoices against approved scopes
• Identify opportunities to shift appropriate work in‑house
• Support capital vs. operating expense decision‑making

Process Improvement & Automation

• Maintain digital tracking for inspections, deficiencies, and compliance records
• Leverage Co-Pilot and automation tools to improve reporting accuracy and reduce administrative workload

Advisory Role to Preventative Maintenance & Operations Leaders

• Provide leadership with clear visibility into compliance status, risks, and constraints
• Flag resourcing gaps or structural risks affecting Preventative Maintenance delivery
• Support long‑term planning and operational continuity as staffing changes occur

Experience And Educational Requirements

• Post-secondary education required
• 2-5 years experience/knowledge of fire systems

Technical Requirements

• Proficiency with Office 365 (Excel, Word and Outlook)
• Ability to learn and adapt to changing systems and new technology

• Demonstrate a positive attitude, enthusiasm and assertiveness

• Valid driver’s license
• Own reliable vehicle
