We are hiring a Social Media Coordinator!
The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for managing and growing The Phoenix News’ online presence by creating engaging digital content, promoting published stories, and connecting with the UBC Okanagan community. This role is ideal for students interested in digital media, marketing, communications, and storytelling.
Responsibilities
- Manage The Phoenix News’ social media platforms and develop content strategies to increase engagement and readership.
- Create and schedule engaging content, including posts, graphics, reels, stories, and promotional materials.
- Promote articles, events, and initiatives while highlighting the work of Phoenix writers and contributors.
- Develop creative ways to showcase campus stories and connect with the UBCO student community.
- Stay up to date with social media trends, platform updates, and emerging digital storytelling techniques.
- Collaborate with writers, editors, and the marketing team to align social media content with publication goals.
- Monitor engagement metrics and use insights to improve content strategy and audience growth.
- Maintain a consistent brand identity and online presence across platforms.
Strong marketing skills and past social media experience are an asset.
The Social Media Coordinator can expect to contribute approximately 4 hours per week and will receive an honorarium of $175 bi-weekly for their work. This position is open to UBCO students only.

Qualifications
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and digital content creation.
- Creative mindset with strong attention to detail and storytelling abilities.
- Experience with graphic design tools (such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to create engaging captions and copy.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate with a team.
- Previous experience managing social media accounts, marketing, or content creation is an asset, but not required.
