About The Job Bookkeeper

Our client, a growing real estate brokerage is looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join their growing team. This position will be primarily responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration for the brokerage, while also providing support to the residential development sister company.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining key financial and accounting records, support brokerage trust accounting, process payroll and commissions, and work with ownership to ensure organized and efficient accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Perform full-cycle bookkeeping for the brokerage and support accounting activities for the development entity using QuickBooks Online, ensuring accurate and timely financial record-keeping.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing, payment tracking, vendor coordination, and collections.
  • Complete bank, credit card, trust, and general account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy and maintain balanced and compliant records.
  • Oversee and maintain brokerage trust accounting activities, including trust transaction tracking, reconciliations, and adherence to applicable brokerage and regulatory requirements.
  • Process payroll administration through Ceridian, maintaining payroll records to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Record and reconcile real estate agent commissions and related payments processed through the conveyancing function, ensuring accurate accounting entries and complete supporting documents.
  • Support month-end and year-end accounting activities, which includes reconciliations, reporting preparation, and coordination with external accountant.
  • Assist with GST reporting and related financial filings, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with applicable financial and tax requirements.
  • Provide bookkeeping support to the development division, including tracking project-related expenses, vendor payments, invoices, and maintaining organized financial records.
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports, accounting summaries, and internal documentation, while supporting efficient financial processes and maintaining confidentiality and strong internal controls.

Key Qualifications Include

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive, full-cycle bookkeeping or accounting experience supporting small to medium sized business; experience within a real estate brokerage or residential development environment is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in reconciling brokerage trust accounts and maintaining accurate trust accounting records.
  • Familiarity with Alberta Real Estate Act, RECA, and brokerage trust accounting requirements is considered a strong asset.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or related field of study; CPA designation, or working towards designation is an asset.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and MS Excel.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of accounting principles, reconciliations, internal controls, and accurate financial recordkeeping.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a high level of integrity and discretion.
