Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, Ideon has developed the REVEAL Subsurface Intelligence Platform, comprised of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, Al-powered services, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data. In turn, this is helping accelerate the world’s transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy – improving peoples’ lives and enhancing economic prosperity.

Ideon is a dynamic tech scale-up of nearly 80 employees, with team members in Canada, Australia, Chile, and the United States. We are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, however they happen to be packaged. Learn more about us at ideon.ai.

The Role

We're looking for a Director, Marketing & Communications to lead Ideon's global marketing and communications strategy — building a distinctive, credible market presence that drives demand, shapes perception, and establishes Ideon as the leader in subsurface intelligence.

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you’ll lead the demand-creation function within Ideon’s unified commercial organization — a single revenue system spanning business development, technical solutions, and customer success — and are accountable for turning Ideon’s platform into repeatable, predictable, and compounding demand.

Marketing Strategy & Product Marketing

  • Evolve our global marketing strategy around growth goals, priority markets, and target segments.
  • Lead product marketing across Ideon's solutions — translating technical capabilities into clear value propositions, with a focus on recurring-revenue use cases and a thoughtful rollout of new products.
  • Partner with Product, Technical Solutions, and Commercial teams on positioning, messaging, sales materials, and pricing.
  • Lead launch plans that help accelerate adoption in enterprise sales cycles.
  • Weave customer success stories consistently through marketing and sales materials.
  • Help align the product roadmap with market needs.
  • Build the value story around the cost of subsurface uncertainty — grounded in each customer's own numbers, with the science as supporting proof rather than the headline.

Demand Generation

  • Design and run demand-generation programs that drive qualified pipeline and revenue growth. Own marketing-sourced and marketing-influenced pipeline as a primary, carried accountability — responsible for qualified-pipeline coverage against target and for lead quality, not for activity or lead-volume metrics alone.
  • Focus pipeline on priority recurring use cases; pair broad, data-driven outreach with more targeted account-based marketing for priority accounts, alongside Business Development.
  • Support major accounts and opportunities with tailored messaging and campaigns.
  • Build and improve campaigns across digital, events, partnerships, and account-based marketing.
  • Oversee strong, visually compelling content across channels.
  • Develop toolkits, value propositions, case studies, and presentations.
  • Build and improve metrics that matter — pipeline created, source and conversion rates, quality MQL-to-SQL conversion, sales-cycle impact, and marketing's contribution to revenue.

Brand, Positioning & Narrative

  • Own the Ideon brand — clear, consistent, and differentiated across every touchpoint.
  • Lead our global trademark portfolio.
  • Develop strong narratives (customer value, investor story, category leadership) that are credible and tailored for customers, government, investors, and partners.
  • Lead the creation of the subsurface-intelligence category as an operational discipline rather than a tagline: work to establish subsurface intelligence as a recognized priority and budget line within customers’ capital-planning process, and to shift the conversation from the technical validator alone toward the operational, risk, and economic decision-makers who own budgets.
  • Own and steward a single message house and language used consistently across teams so the category is described the same way in every customer conversation.

Communications

  • Own company-wide communications strategy.
  • Position Ideon as a thought leader in subsurface intelligence, critical minerals, and reducing geologic uncertainty.
  • Oversee media relations — messaging, storytelling, press engagement, and issue management.
  • Keep voice, tone, and messaging consistent across channels and audiences.
  • Guide executive communications, including presentations and thought leadership.

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Build systems and processes for marketing and communications execution.
  • Run marketing as a lean, AI-augmented function in which output — not headcount — is the measure of scale. Treat AI as the operating layer of the function: capture marketing and customer interactions as structured data, reason over it against Ideon’s own frameworks, and deliver drafts, scoring, and monitoring into the tools the team already uses — spanning demand-source attribution, a repeatable case-study and reference factory, a living objection and messaging library, account-based content personalization, and category thought-leadership — with a human owning and signing off on every externally-facing output.
  • Own reporting across brand, communications, and pipeline performance.
  • Manage budgets and resources for the best impact.
  • Coach and support your team, contractors, and collaborators.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, creativity, and continuous improvement.

What success looks like

  • Pipeline: Marketing consistently delivers qualified pipeline that's a good fit, contributing measurably to recurring revenue growth.
  • Recurring-revenue focus: Demand gen is weighted toward recurring monitoring programs, not just one-off projects.
  • Proof supply: Steady stream of strong, value-driven case studies feeds both demand and category credibility.
  • Market leadership: Ideon is recognized as the category leader in subsurface intelligence.
  • Narrative leadership: Communications are consistent and effective across customers, investors, and governments.
  • Scalable engine: Systems support global growth, with revenue growing faster than headcount.

First 90 days

  • Learn what's working from the outgoing marketing lead and document it well.
  • Support current campaigns and agency relationships hands-on.
  • Understand the product roadmap and identify opportunities.
  • Map out where qualified pipeline comes from and how it converts, and set an initial version of our core messaging and category language.
  • Build a flexible foundation for positioning a fast-growing company for its next stage.

Qualifications

Must-haves:

  • Degree in marketing, communications, business, or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years leading marketing and communications in B2B tech, mining, or industrial environments.
  • Track record building integrated marketing (including product marketing) and communications functions from strategy through execution, including corporate communications and media relations.
  • Experience owning a marketing-sourced pipeline number in an enterprise, long-cycle, committee-based B2B sale — with accountability for both coverage and fit.
  • Experience building or leading category creation in a technical B2B market — establishing a new budget line and reaching a new buying committee, not just new branding.
  • Data-driven approach linking activities to pipeline, revenue, and strategic outcomes in enterprise sales.
  • Proficiency with marketing automation, CRM, analytics, and SEO/AI search tools, plus collaboration tools (we use HubSpot and Notion extensively).
  • Comfortable running an AI-supported team — experience designing workflows that combine people and AI tools (research, drafting, scoring, monitoring) with good judgment and human sign-off on anything external.
  • Excellent storytelling, writing, and stakeholder skills — able to translate complex technical solutions into clear, compelling narratives with measurable business impact.
  • Legally able and currently authorized to work full-time in Canada.
  • Experience in or excitement for working in a tech scale-up; happy to wear a few hats and adjust on the fly.
  • An ambitious, can-do attitude; you get that we’re doing challenging work and are excited to dive in.
  • Enthusiastic and confident to take initiative and be adaptable in an agile, fast-paced environment.
  • Solid teamwork skills; you’re accountable to yourself and your team and will jump in to help where you can.
  • Creative solutioning mindset with great problem-solving skills.
  • Insatiable curiosity paired with a drive to deliver.
  • Able to work well under pressure and to meet committed deadlines.
  • Great interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with colleagues, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Able to contribute something “extra” to our culture beyond the work that you do.
