Posting #: 2026-61 Title: Victim Services Caseworker (Casual) x 3 Positions Department: Chilliwack RCMP - Public Safety and Social Development Duties: This is specialized work involving the provision of immediate crisis intervention at crime scenes and scenes of trauma and follow-up support services to victims and witnesses of crime and other forms of trauma. Victim Services Caseworkers must observe and comply with Municipal, Provincial, and RCMP policies, Provincial and Federal privacy laws, and ensure the safety and security of confidential material pertaining to the Chilliwack RCMP Detachment’s operation. Responding to requests for emergency support from members of the Chilliwack RCMP, Victim Services Caseworkers provide crisis intervention, information, and referrals at the scene of crimes, serious accidents, deaths, intimate partner violence, and other serious incidents, as well as follow-up and court support services. Victim Services Caseworkers may attend to any scene alone or with a colleague where requested by police. Victim Services Caseworkers exercise sound judgement and initiative within the framework of established procedures in functioning effectively under conditions of emergency and conflict. Policy matters and unusual problems are referred to the Victim Services Supervisor.

The incumbent responds to police crisis call-outs and attends police scenes where crimes, serious accidents, death, or intimate partner violence have taken place and provides initial incident defusing, critical incident stabilization, liaises between emergency and/or hospital personnel, identifies and addresses immediate emotional, safety and logistical needs, provides information on immediate next steps and/or actions to be taken by police, and coordinates with appropriate agencies to obtain immediate services. The incumbent assists police with next-of-kin notifications; provides short term emotional support to victims of crime, trauma and family problems; makes referrals to appropriate agencies for services such as counseling, financial assistance, and legal advice; provides information on victim’s rights and the Criminal Justice System; and offers court orientation and accompaniment to clients required to testify in court. The incumbent will update clients on the progress of police investigations and court file updates. The incumbent provides information about the CVAP and Victim Impact Statements and assists victims in completing CVAP applications and victim impact statements; and related duties as assigned.

The incumbent in this class will be required to work up to 40 hours per week and conform to the hours of work as prescribed in published shift schedules and on occasion, work overtime as authorized. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The incumbent will be responsible for performing tasks associated with clerical “housekeeping” duties.

Education: -Must have a minimum of 1 year of post secondary studies in Critical Incident Management or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by formal post secondary courses in Criminology or Social Sciences - OR - an acceptable combination of education and experience; Skills: -Experience working in a police agency or within the criminal justice system would be considered an asset;

• Familiarity with PRIME and/or JUSTIN would be considered an asset;
• Must hold a valid BC Driver’s License;
• Able to perform clerical, typing and receptionist duties with minimal supervision;
• Able to be courteous, tactful and diplomatic in dealing with the public and be neat and presentable in appearance;
• Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff;
• Able to qualify for and maintain the required RCMP security clearance for the position. Failure on the part of the employee to satisfy this requirement will necessitate the removal of that employee from the position.
