Role Description

The Derrickhand is a full-time, on-site role based in Alberta, working on oil and gas well service and workover rigs. Day-to-day responsibilities include handling and monitoring drilling and workover equipment in the derrick, assisting with tripping pipe, tubing, and other downhole tools, and ensuring proper fluid and mud system management.

The Derrickhand supports the Operator and Rig Manager with safe rig-up and rig-down procedures, equipment inspections, and routine maintenance. The role also involves following all company safety programs, including H2S and other hazard controls, actively participating in safety meetings, and collaborating with the rig crew to maintain efficient, compliant operations in varying weather and field conditions.

Qualifications

• Strong practical skills and experience with drilling operations, including safe handling of drill pipe and related downhole tools.
• Knowledge of workover procedures and well servicing activities, with the ability to support tubing and well maintenance tasks.
• Ability to operate and work around heavy equipment safely, following established rig and site safety protocols.
• Training and awareness in H2S safety and other applicable wellsite safety standards, with a commitment to safe work practices.
• Previous experience on service or drilling rigs, preferably in the Western Canada.
• Capacity to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting, climbing, and working at heights and in varying weather.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow directions and support a diverse rig crew.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote field locations; relevant industry safety certifications.
