About shoptravel

shoptravel is a proudly Canadian travel platform built to be more than a booking engine— your travel co-pilot, combining personalized guidance, curated discovery, and genuine human care to make every step of the journey feel personal, trustworthy, and dependable. shoptravel brings over three decades of Canadian travel expertise together with technology that helps Canadians not just book travel but feel inspired to take it. Real expertise. Real people. A better way to travel.

About the role

As shoptravel scales from launch into growth, we are looking for a hands-on Controller to own the day-to-day accounting function and build the financial foundation of a fast-moving Canadian travel platform. You will be responsible for accurate, timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, and the processes that keep a high-volume travel business running cleanly; from supplier settlements to month-end close.

This is a builder’s role. You are as comfortable in the detail of a reconciliation as you are advising leadership on cash flow and forecasting, and you are excited to put scalable systems and controls in place while the company is still young.

What you will do

  • Own full-cycle accounting— general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and month-end and year-end close
  • Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting for leadership
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and daily and monthly reconciliations, including merchant processing and supplier settlements
  • Oversee reconciliation of travel supplier and settlement activity (for example BSP/ARC-style supplier payments, refunds, and chargebacks) in a high-transaction environment
  • Develop, document, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with the leadership team
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), tax filings and remittances (GST/HST), and provincial travel-industry regulatory reporting (for example TICO) where applicable
  • Coordinate the annual audit or review engagement with external accountants
  • Support selection, implementation, and optimization of financial systems and process automation
  • Hire, mentor, and manage accounting staff as the team grows

What you bring

  • CPA designation
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including two or more in a controller or senior accounting role
  • Strong working knowledge of ASPE and full-cycle accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills and hands-on experience with an ERP or accounting system (for example NetSuite, Sage, or QuickBooks)
  • A strong internal-controls mindset with excellent analytical skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to partner with leadership across the business

Nice to have

  • Experience in travel, tourism, OTA, e-commerce, or another high-volume transaction business
  • Familiarity with travel settlement processes, merchant payment processing, and refund and chargeback handling
  • Knowledge of travel-industry regulatory reporting (for example TICO)
  • Experience building or scaling a finance function in an early-stage or high-growth company
  • French/English bilingualism

What we offer

  • A genuine ground-floor opportunity to help shape a proudly Canadian travel brand from the start
  • A founder-led team, drawing on over three decades of Canadian travel expertise
  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package
  • Travel perks and a workplace built by people who genuinely love travel
  • Room to grow as the company grows
