Qualifications

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends is required.
  • Ability to work on both the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses is required.
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Manitoba is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment is required; is self-motivated.
  • Satisfactory work record, including good attendance and punctuality, is required.

Key responsibilities

  • Provides a welcoming environment to University of Manitoba Libraries clients during evenings and weekends.
  • Provides assistance with directions to washrooms, library equipment, etc.
  • Completes shift reports detailing building activities, hourly head counts, maintenance needs and incidents, and communicates a summary to their supervisor at the end of each shift.
  • Provides referrals to appropriate library staff and services.
  • Ensures all proper closing procedures are completed on weekday evenings and opening and closing procedures on weekends.
  • Follows standard evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency.
  • Maintains timely communication with Supervisors including responding to email, phone and text messages.
  • Communicates immediately with Security Services for any security related concerns and informing them of any disruptive or inappropriate behaviour (i.e., vandalism, excessive noise, etc.).
  • Helps to maintain the physical appearance of the library.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
