Date: 3 days ago
City: Calgary, AB
Est. CA$78,550 - CA$99,986 / yr
Contract type: Contractor

This role supports large, multi‑year 256 to 500KV to 765 kV transmission line and substation projects across multiple regions in the U.S. Candidates will typically support 2–3 projects concurrently, spanning early‑stage planning, detailed design, bid support, and construction field support. The scope is heavily focused on transmission and substation design services at the 500kV level, including voltage‑class‑specific considerations such as switching surge control being the governing design factor rather than lightning surge. The team is building on standards and methodologies matured at lower voltage classes (e.g., 345 kV), applying and extending them to this novel voltage class. This is a hands‑on execution role first, with a strong expectation that the hire will also act as a technical leader and SME, transferring knowledge and mentoring internal teams as projects progress. Key Responsibilities: Execute and review 5000 and 765 kV transmission and/or substation design activities Apply advanced electrical studies and standards development appropriate to ultra‑high‑voltage systems Support pursuit and proposal efforts for major 765 kV programs Provide technical leadership during detailed engineering, procurement, and construction phases Interface directly with clients and stakeholders For PM/CM profiles: Lead multi‑disciplinary teams (engineering, design, field support) and manage scope, schedule, and risk Serve as a knowledge resource and mentor, helping build long‑term internal capability in 765 kV work Experience leading medium‑to‑large project teams (typically 10–30+ contributors across disciplines) Strong communication skills with proven client‑facing experience
