We are seeking an experienced
Senior Front End Designer to join the Government of Alberta's Digital Design and Delivery Division (3D) in supporting large-scale service innovation, program review, and digital transformation initiatives. This role is ideal for professionals with strong expertise in user-centered design (UCD), UX design, design systems, accessibility, Agile product delivery, and digital service design.
The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to design intuitive, accessible, and evidence-based digital experiences for Albertans. You will create UX artifacts, contribute to design research, develop high-fidelity interfaces and prototypes, and ensure solutions align with government standards and modern digital practices.

Key Responsibilities (by Workload)
- Design & Deliver User-Centered Digital Experiences (40%)
- Design intuitive, evidence-based front-end experiences for digital government services.
- Develop UX deliverables including:
- User scenarios
- Storyboards
- User flows
- Wireframes
- Interactive prototypes
- High-fidelity interface designs
- Produce build-ready design specifications aligned with corporate standards.
- Design reusable components and interface patterns to improve consistency.
- Ensure solutions meet business objectives while delivering exceptional user experiences.
- Collaborate Within Agile Product Teams (30%)
- Work closely with Product Owners, Developers, Researchers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including:
- Sprint Planning
- Daily Stand-ups
- Sprint Reviews
- Demonstrations
- Retrospectives
- Support backlog refinement and feature prioritization.
- Iterate designs based on user feedback and project requirements.
- Conduct Research, Testing & Accessibility Reviews (20%)
- Develop plans for design research activities.
- Conduct usability testing and analyze findings.
- Produce usability test reports and actionable recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Recommend design improvements that enhance usability and service delivery.
- Stakeholder Communication & Design Governance (10%)
- Present design concepts and recommendations to project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Justify design decisions using research findings and user insights.
- Support enterprise digital transformation initiatives through modern design thinking practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of digital design standards and methodologies.

Project Overview
The Government of Alberta's
Digital Design and Delivery Division (3D) is responsible for driving digital innovation, modernization, and service excellence across government ministries.
The province is expanding its digital service capabilities to simplify citizen interactions while improving efficiency, accessibility, and overall user experience.
To support this initiative, the Government of Alberta is seeking up to seventeen (17) Senior Front End Designers to participate in service innovation, digital transformation, and program modernization projects. Successful candidates will work within multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams to research, design, prototype, test, and deliver modern digital services.
Scope of Services
The Selected Consultant Will
- Support multiple concurrent digital transformation initiatives.
- Produce iterative UX/UI deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop prototypes, wireframes, interface specifications, and design systems.
- Conduct usability testing and accessibility evaluations.
- Provide recommendations based on user research and evidence.
- Collaborate with Agile teams to continuously improve digital products and services.
The assignment is expected to run for 12 months, with the possibility of extension for up to 24 additional months.
Although this position is primarily remote, candidates must be available to travel to Edmonton, Alberta, for occasional meetings or workshops (typically quarterly) with reasonable notice. Travel time and related expenses are the responsibility of the consultant.
