Principal Originator – Energy & Data Centre Solutions

Taylor Hopkinson are supporting a leading organisation operating at the intersection of energy infrastructure, power markets, and emerging high-demand energy sectors who are recruiting an experienced Principal Originator to identify, structure, and execute strategic commercial opportunities.

This role will focus on developing scalable energy solutions for large energy users, infrastructure operators, commercial customers, and market participants. The successful candidate will play a key role in originating and advancing complex transactions involving renewable energy, energy storage, flexible generation, and integrated power solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Originate and develop commercial opportunities across renewable energy, battery storage, flexible generation, and large-scale power solutions.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with corporate energy users, infrastructure developers, utilities, investors, and industry partners.
• Lead the commercial development, structuring, and negotiation of complex energy agreements, including power purchase agreements, virtual PPAs, tolling arrangements, energy services agreements, and related contracts.
• Develop tailored energy solutions that align customer requirements with available generation, storage, and infrastructure capabilities.
• Evaluate commercial, market, regulatory, contractual, and operational risks and develop strategies to support successful execution.
• Monitor energy market trends, customer demand, regulatory changes, and emerging opportunities to support business growth.
• Work closely with internal teams across engineering, project development, finance, legal, regulatory, and executive functions to progress opportunities from origination through execution.
• Prepare commercial assessments, investment recommendations, and transaction strategies for senior stakeholders.
• Support negotiations, due diligence processes, financing activities, and final investment decisions.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in energy markets, commercial development, and structured transactions, with experience navigating complex power-related opportunities.

Requirements include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Economics, or a related discipline. Advanced qualifications or professional designations are considered an asset.
• 7+ years of experience in energy origination, power markets, energy trading, commercial development, infrastructure investment, or a related field.
• Proven experience originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing complex energy transactions.
• Strong understanding of power purchase agreements, structured energy contracts, and commercial arrangements within energy markets.
• Experience working with large energy consumers, utilities, infrastructure developers, industrial customers, or other strategic counterparties.
• Exposure to renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, flexible generation assets, or integrated energy infrastructure.
• Ability to assess market fundamentals, pricing structures, regulatory considerations, transmission limitations, and project economics.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across technical, commercial, financial, legal, and executive stakeholders.
