Deputy Charge Nurse - Ward 4C

The Role

The role of the Deputy Charge Nurse is highly specialised within this haemato-oncology cancer unit providing a comprehensive and holistic approach to inpatient care, using extensive acquired knowledge and skills.

Chemotherapy experience in this speciality would be essential for this senior role.

The DCN is expected to help manage a team of nurses including all management areas such as HR, budget, audits and general organisation of the area. You should be able to provide assurance to the Senior Charge Nurse and Lead Nurse in the key quality indicators.

As an essential part of our team, you’ll deliver high quality, clinically effective patient care at all times with some of this being out with the ward area in other areas of the hospital. We can offer you a varied caseload including caring for patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies and Supportive Care of Patients during their Cancer Journey and end of life care. The ability and experience of supporting staff and patients in emotionally difficult situations would be desirable in this sometimes challenging speciality.

Extensive experience in a Haemato-oncology setting is definitely desirable. Candidates must hold an NMC registration to apply and be able to demonstrate that they can work at highly specialised level.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• This is a permanent, full time post of 36 hours per week.
• Based within Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
• The shift pattern is as per the rota.

Clinical

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient needs implementation and evaluation of programmes of care which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
• Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.

Professional

• Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
• Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
• Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• First Level Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years post registration experience.
• 3 years experience and appropriate post registration qualification/relevant experience in specialty.
• Competent in Chemotherapy Administration. To have completed or willing to complete Beatson WoSCC course in SACT.
• Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
