Contract type: Intern

Grow food, Organic veggie farming

Position: Organic Vegetable Farm Intern

Farm: Grey Wolf Gardens

Location: Cochrane, Northern Ontario

Housing: on-farm accomodation (see below)

Due to unforeseen circumstances, one of our team members has had to leave the farm early and so we have an intern spot open for the 2026 growing season!

We run an organic mixed vegetable farm in Northern Ontario. If you are interested in learning how to grow your own food, come do it here! We have an excellent team and a great farm culture.

Working With Us, You Will Learn

  • Mixing plant starter soil mixes, seed starting, nursery management and seedling care
  • Transplanting, direct seeding, and paperpot planting
  • Fertilization, irrigation and weed management
  • Proper harvest technique and post-harvest handling
  • The harvesting of wild medicinal plants and the preparation of herbal products

We run a 45 family CSA (weekly boxes) and two farmer’s markets. We also have a partnership with the native community, where we manage a demonstration garden on their Cultural Grounds and provide some workshops throughout the season to the community members. The Cultural Grounds is also where traditional ceremonies and activities take place, like sweat lodges, meat smoking, hide preparation and tanning and more.

We offer on-farm accommodation – farm staff have their own house with full amenities, as well as use of the farm truck for travel into town. Additionally, we offer unlimited produce from the farm as well as a food stipend for foods purchased from town on top of the labour stipend. We have monthly group dinners and bonfires, and there are lots of things to do in town as well!

After a long day on the farm, you’re only a 15 minute drive into town where you can relax on the beach or go for a swim in Lake Commando. Our town also has other fun and interesting things to do: there is a polar bear habitat where you can see polar bears up close and even take a swim with them; a heritage village, a lakeside pavillion that has weekly live music, a summer festival, a rodeo and more!

If you are interested in learning how to grow your own food, working on a vegetable farm that provides locally grown organic produce to communities in the North, working with Native communities, and being part of an awesome team, get in touch today! This position is open and available for someone to start right away, and our season runs until October 31st.
