PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join the Human Resources Team in Calgary.

Reporting to the Director, HR & Communications, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for the full cycle administration of payroll and benefits programs, including maintaining employee records, processing payroll transactions, administering benefit enrolments, and preparing annual T4s and other tax reports. The role ensures the accuracy, security and confidentiality of employee information and acts as the primary point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries, providing timely and professional support to employees.

Accountabilities

The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer payroll and benefits in accordance with labour standards, privacy legislation and with PCC’s Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with relevant federal and provincial employment legislation and manage changes required as they relate to payroll and benefits
  • Act as subject matter expert for payroll and benefit related inquiries, providing guidance to employees, managers, and HR in a timely, professional, and confidential manner
  • Support employee time-writing functions
  • Maintain current, easy to locate (FAQ) information and forms for pay and benefits on the company intranet
  • Communication with employees regarding payroll or benefit matters and arranging companywide education offerings
  • System updates and projects as required
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll and employment data, including new hires, terminations, transfers, compensation changes, schedules, banking details, tax information, and employee record updates
  • Maintain employee data in the corporate benefit plan/platform
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll
  • Report, reconcile, and administer taxable benefits, gross-ups, and allowances for expatriate employees in conjunction with Tax Manager
  • Coordinate with third-party institutions
  • Prepare and/or support required reporting (federal/provincial tax filings, EI, WCB, year-end, T4’s, etc.)
  • Validate employee hours, overtime, premiums, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, deductions, taxable benefits, and other earnings before payroll submission
  • Review payroll registers, investigate discrepancies, and process payroll adjustments, reversals, corrections, and off-cycle items as required
  • Any other special reports for payroll information as required
  • Ensure system integrity by running regular reports and audits
  • Coordinate and test system modifications/enhancements (e.g., amended organization structure changes, new payroll earnings/codes, time reporting and costing, etc.)
  • Maintain electronic personnel files and ensure information is up to date
  • Review relevant metrics and trends to identify areas for improvement (e.g., accuracy of data, system enhancements, education seminars for employees/managers, etc.)
  • Administer employee benefits processes, including all enrolments, terminations, coverage changes, employee updates, benefits invoice administration, and employee benefits coverage support
  • Advise employees of benefit eligibility and claims process
  • Administration of short and long-term disability leaves, WCB claims, and modified work programs, including liaising third-party and employees
