The Electronics Designer will play a vital role as a key individual in our product development group performing a wide range of tasks, including electronics design, documentation, prototype assembly, troubleshooting and sustaining engineering tasks. Duties & Responsibilities

Working within assigned technical roles, key duties, relationships, responsibilities and objectives will include:

  • Performing the Project Technical Lead role on development projects as assigned
  • Accountability for technical task completion and achievement of design objectives
  • Representing the company during customer facing technical discussions and interactions
  • Analyzing and interpreting product specifications, schematics and requirements
  • Solving technical problems
  • Designing and building electronic subsystems, circuit card assemblies and interfaces
  • Interfacing with external clients and vendors on project matters
  • Assisting on design of analog and digital circuits including embedded microcontrollers
  • Designing and building cabling and interconnection systems
  • Testing and troubleshooting electronic systems and writing test reports
  • Testing firmware and software and writing test reports
  • Documenting designs and releasing documents
  • Handling obsolete component issues
  • Sourcing components and generating purchase order requests
  • Analyzing product failures and initiating corrective actions
  • Estimating effort required for various tasks
  • Maintaining lab facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Electronics engineering degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years electronics experience in an electronics engineering role
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills (English)
  • Proficiency with lab instrumentation such as mixed signal oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
  • Good electronics testing and troubleshooting abilities
  • Proficiency in electronics assembly techniques including SMT (4+ years)
  • 4+ years analogue and digital design, test and measurement experience
  • 4+ years experience with electronics supply chain issues and mitigation methods
  • Eligibility for a Canadian security clearance to the level of Secret

Desirable Training And Experience

  • Training and experience with IPC soldering standards
  • Trained and experienced on OrCad & PCB layout
  • Experience with ARM Cortex M0/M3/M4 and related circuits
  • Experience with low power wearable electronic circuitry
  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing and shielding techniques
  • Experience with MIL STD 810 and MIL STD 461 testing and compliance
  • Good understanding of electronic manufacturing processes and automation
  • Good hardware and software testing and troubleshooting abilities
  • Software programming (C, C#, Java, NI, Python)
  • Low power mobile microcontroller systems
  • Mechanical assembly and tools operation
  • Experience with adhesives and waterproofing of electronics
  • Documentation – writing specifications, design descriptions, work instructions
  • Process documentation and software (ECRs, Innovator, CARs)
  • Experience with MS Office software
