We are looking for a motivated Geomatics Engineer or Technologist to join our team in a field-oriented position involving surveying, engineering, industrial measurement, and aerial mapping projects throughout British Columbia and Western Canada.

This position will be based out of our Nelson office but will involve regular travel and working away from home, often for several days or weeks at a time depending on the project. The successful candidate should enjoy working in the field, travelling to interesting locations, and working on a wide variety of projects and job sites.

About the Opportunity

In addition to Kodiak Measurement Services, our Nelson office is home to Harrier Aerial Surveys and Darrin Connatty, BCLS. The successful candidate will be employed by Kodiak but will have the opportunity to participate in projects undertaken by all the companies operating from our office.

Our work covers an extensive range of applications, including:

We use state-of-the-art Leica survey equipment, including robotic and imaging total stations, high-precision GNSS equipment, laser trackers and other specialized measurement systems, supported by current processing, CAD and data-management software.

Working Away & Travel

This is a field-oriented position, and the successful candidate must be comfortable working away from home on project assignments.

· Projects throughout BC and Western Canada

· Multi-day and multi-week field assignments

· Remote and industrial work sites

· Mine, mill, manufacturing and construction sites

· Occasional work in challenging outdoor environments

· Travel by company vehicle and, where required, commercial air travel

Travel time, accommodations and applicable travel expenses are provided by the company, with project-specific arrangements made in advance.

The ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work independently while away from the office is an important part of the position.

The Ideal Candidate

· A diploma or degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Engineering Technology or a related field

· Previous surveying, geomatics or industrial measurement experience

· Strong technical and problem-solving abilities

· Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accurate work

· The ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documentation

· Strong computer and data-processing skills

· A valid driver's licence and clean driving record

· The ability to work independently in the field

· The ability to travel and work away from home for extended periods

· The physical ability to work safely on active construction, industrial and outdoor work sites

· Legal eligibility to work in Canada

We are particularly interested in candidates with a mechanical, millwright, industrial maintenance or machining background, in addition to geomatics experience.

This combination of skills is particularly valuable for our industrial metrology and mechanical alignment work.

Experience with Leica equipment, total stations, GNSS, laser trackers, CAD software or UAV mapping technology is also an asset.
