Position Overview
The GIS and Environmental Data Specialist is responsible for managing, analyzing, visualizing, and communicating environmental data through GIS systems, field data collection tools, and digital reporting platforms. This role serves as the primary geospatial resource within the organization, supporting project teams through the development of high quality maps, figures, dashboards, and data products that inform environmental decision making and client deliverables. The position is also responsible for identifying opportunities to improve data workflows, advancing digital innovation, supporting field data collection programs, and contributing to the long-term growth of Solstice's geospatial capabilities.
Position Requirements
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience using the Esri ArcGIS platform, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Field Maps, geodatabase management, spatial analysis, cartographic production, and web-based GIS applications within an environmental consulting environment.
- Experience with field data collection tools (Survey 123, Fieldmaps, Tablogs, GPS devices).
- Experience supporting environmental consultation projects involving regulatory submissions and technical reporting.
- Readily adapt to changing priorities and effectively work in a changing and high-volume work environment.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and quality control.
- Effective problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Strong understanding of data management best practices, including data quality and security.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring, reclamation, wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, water resources, or contaminated sites datasets.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 programs and tools.
- Project management and organizational skills to establish priorities, estimate timeframes, meet deadlines, assess problems, suggest, and implement solutions, make independent decisions, and ensure standards are maintained.
- Must speak, read and write English fluently.
Assets:
- Experience training, mentoring or supporting technical staff in GIS, lab data management and field data collection systems.
- Proven experience managing large spatial and attribute datasets, including modeling, statistical analysis and visual presentation. Knowledge of advanced spatial interpretation methods (Kriging), models and programming languages such as Python or R.
- Experience with other GIS/Remote sensing software e.g., QGIS, AutoCAD, R, Google Earth Engine, FME, GRASS, ERDAS Imagine, eCognition.
- Familiarity with machine learning, AI, and predictive analytics for environmental data analysis and predictive modeling.
- Experience with the use of multispectral, hyperspectral, and LiDAR data for environmental applications.
- Experience developing SharePoint-based automations or workflows to streamline business processes.
- Advanced Power BI skills, including DAX, Power Query, and custom visual development.
Education
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental sciences, Computer Science, Geography, Geomatics Engineering, Geographic Information Systems or related field.
