About the Opportunity

Stafingo is seeking an experienced Senior IT Project Manager to support a major public-sector technology environment in Alberta.

The successful candidate will lead and coordinate complex technology initiatives involving cloud platforms, Microsoft 365, artificial intelligence, enterprise technology services, business applications and digital transformation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior project management professional who can work effectively across business and technical teams, manage multiple workstreams, establish strong project governance, and drive initiatives from planning and requirements through implementation and transition.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors and project sponsors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and in alignment with organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, coordination and successful delivery of multiple complex IT and technology projects from initiation through implementation and closeout.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans covering scope, objectives, deliverables, milestones, timelines, resources, dependencies, risks, assumptions, benefits and budget considerations.
  • Establish project governance structures, roles and responsibilities and ensure appropriate decision-making and escalation processes are in place.
  • Develop project charters, business plans, requirements documentation, schedules, status reports and other project deliverables.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams consisting of business stakeholders, technical specialists, architects, vendors, project resources and leadership.
  • Establish project schedules, assign responsibilities, monitor progress and take corrective action when deliverables, milestones or timelines are at risk.
  • Manage project risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies and interdependencies and ensure appropriate mitigation and escalation strategies are implemented.
  • Work closely with project sponsors and stakeholders to maintain effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare executive-level project status reports, briefing materials, presentations and recommendations for senior leadership, governance committees and other stakeholders.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear business-oriented recommendations for executives and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Analyze business requirements, technical considerations, organizational policies and operational processes to determine appropriate project approaches and delivery strategies.
  • Support the development of recommendations related to resource requirements, project dependencies, technology considerations, policy impacts and implementation methodologies.
  • Ensure technology solutions and project deliverables align with applicable enterprise architecture, organizational standards, policies and business requirements.
  • Coordinate requirements gathering, solution design, implementation planning, testing and deployment activities.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities by coordinating business participation, test planning, issue tracking, resolution and stakeholder sign-off.
  • Work with technical teams to understand infrastructure environments, including general concepts related to workstations, servers, software deployment, application environments and enterprise technology architectures.
  • Coordinate change management and communication activities to support successful adoption of new technologies, systems and processes.
  • Develop communication plans and stakeholder engagement strategies appropriate to the project and affected business groups.
  • Work with project sponsors and stakeholders to identify and address barriers, resolve issues and maintain client satisfaction.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while balancing competing priorities, timelines, resources and stakeholder expectations.
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance to project team members regarding priorities, deliverables, timelines and project objectives.
  • Facilitate project meetings, working sessions, stakeholder discussions and governance meetings.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, decision logs, action items, risk registers, issue logs and project records.
  • Monitor project performance against established objectives, milestones, resources and budget and communicate variances promptly.
  • Coordinate project deliverables and package materials for presentation to senior management, steering committees and internal support teams.
  • Conduct project reviews following implementation to determine whether expected outcomes and benefits were achieved.
  • Identify lessons learned and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement in future technology initiatives.
  • Ensure project activities follow established project management office (PMO) standards, methodologies, processes and governance requirements.
  • Where required, contribute to the development and enhancement of project management standards, templates and procedures.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior technology project manager with a proven record of delivering complex projects in large, highly structured organizations.

You should have

  • 8+ years of progressive IT project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex technology projects from initiation through implementation.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies, Microsoft 365, AI initiatives, enterprise applications or digital transformation programs.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure concepts, including hardware, software environments, servers, workstations and software deployment.
  • Experience with business requirements, solution delivery, UAT, change management and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience managing project schedules, risks, issues, dependencies, resources and deliverables.
  • Strong project governance and PMO experience.
  • Experience preparing executive-level reporting, presentations, briefing notes and project documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with senior executives, directors, business leaders, technical teams and external vendors.
  • Public-sector experience is highly desirable.

Work Arrangement

  • Remote position within Canada.
  • Candidates must be able to work during standard Alberta business hours.
  • Standard working hours are approximately 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM Alberta time, Monday to Friday, excluding applicable provincial holidays.
  • The successful candidate must be available to attend occasional onsite meetings or working sessions in Alberta when reasonably required.
  • Onsite meetings may involve strategic, architectural, technical or stakeholder discussions with project teams and senior leadership.
  • Onsite attendance may occur approximately 3-4 times per month, depending on business requirements.
  • Travel, commuting, accommodation and related expenses associated with onsite attendance are the responsibility of the contractor.
  • Candidate must provide their own computer and required work equipment. The equipment must support the required remote-access environment.
