This volunteer opportunity is to support the delivery of 'Digital Basics & Online Safety 4-Part Series' on four Saturdays in November 2026 (Nov 7th, Nov 14th, Nov 21st & Nov 28th) at the Central Branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library. This program is in Partnership with Victoria Literacy Connection.

About Digital Bridge Society

The Digital Bridge Society’s (DBS) mission is to foster digital equity by co-creating spaces where people of all ages learn with and from each other. We empower individuals to become digital advocates for themselves and their neighbours, turning technology into a catalyst for making connections, building confidence, and fostering community. We create intergenerational workshops that build digital confidence for older adults while creating meaningful connections across generations.

About Victoria Literacy Connection

We help children, youth and adults improve their literacy abilities, including reading, writing, math, English Language Learning, digital, financial and media skills by providing tutoring and a variety of other programs.

Digital Basics and Online Safety Program (November 2026):

This program is being held in collaboration with VLC, and is hosted at Victoria Public Library, Central Branch. We’re looking for 2-3 volunteers to support. The program covers key topics including:

1. Tech basics
2. Online Safety
3. Social Engineering & Top Scams
4. Identifying Scams on the Web

There are 4 workshops in this program. Each workshop is 90 minutes, with 60 minutes of structured learning and 30 minutes of socializing time.

Workshops will run every Saturday in November (7, 14, 21 and 28), with volunteers committing 2.5 hours per session (including setup and cleanup) from 11:00am - 1:30pm PST.

• 30 minutes of pre-program set up before participants arrive
• 60 minutes of digital learning
• 30 minutes of post-program social with tea and treats
• 30 min of post-program clean up after participants leave

About our volunteers

Our volunteers play an essential role in creating a supportive, welcoming learning environment during our workshops. Every session will be led by a DBS team member and supported by volunteers. The following responsibilities outline what is expected during each session:

The main role of our volunteers is to provide support to both the older adults in their learning, and the DBS team members who will lead the facilitation of the workshops.

Supporting older adults

• Provide one-to-one tech support and guidance to learners, assisting with tasks, troubleshooting, device setup, and navigation, while offering patient encouragement to build tech confidence.
• During socializing time, join conversations and engage with learners. Support with the set up and distribution of refreshments.

Supporting DBS team

• Help with prepping and putting away the classroom
• Share feedback with DBS about your volunteer experience and any observations from sessions.
• Act as an advocate for DBS, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Raise any concerns, issues, or challenges with DBS staff promptly.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect learners’ privacy at all times.
• Be punctual, prepared, and ready to support learners at the start of each session.
• Use good judgement about attending sessions if unwell, and inform DBS staff as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.

These sessions are designed to ensure you feel confident, supported, and well-prepared before stepping into the workshops. If you’d like to volunteer but once the training dates are confirmed you realize they don’t work for you, we’ll work with you to find a suitable alternative.

Please note that volunteers should not post photos of participants or share any personal information from the program to protect confidentiality.
