As a Mechanical and Thermal Analyst, you will join the Advanced Engineering team, which is part of the engineering department responsible for the development of traction motors and high voltage electronic products for electric vehicles.

You will contribute to the Advanced Engineering team’s mission to bring to maturity new technologies and innovations that will enable the motors and electronic products developed to stand out.

The team is called upon to support the various technology roadmaps maintained by the Product Development and Product Planning groups, as well as the Light Duty, Commercial and Off-Highway business unit representatives. The team is responsible for completing and sharing the results of technology evaluation, demonstration and technical risk mitigation projects. The team is also responsible for promoting and supporting technology transfer in partnership with the product development teams.


Your mandate: revolutionize the world of transportation, while:

  • Performing FEA stress, vibration and thermal analysis
  • Leading or collaborating in the development or improvement of motor or inverter design optimization tools, including system and multiphysics aspects
  • Lead or contribute to the design of motor prototypes, electronic products and experimental proofs of concept
  • Integrate, improve and promote thermal management approaches in the design of motors and electronic products
  • Integrate, improve and promote NVH reduction approaches in engine design and control
  • Integrate the principles of operational safety
  • Lead or participate in the various stages of an Advanced Engineering project including identification of objectives and risks, planning of activities, design, procurement and manufacturing of prototypes, experimental validation, documentation, and sharing of results
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (Electromagnetics, Electronics, Software, Mechanical) towards the achievement of objectives and resolution of problems
  • Conduct or support laboratory and test room testing
  • Supervise and support the work of technicians and assemblers when required
  • Conduct or participate in risk and failure mode analyses
  • Contribute to establishing, maintaining and improving processes
  • Conduct or participate in design reviews of advanced engineering projects involving members of the product development groups and the analysis team
  • Participate in design reviews of product development groups
  • Maintain a good knowledge of the internal and external state of the art in order to propose informed adjustments to Advanced Engineering projects
  • Collaborate with partners internal and external to Dana, including specialized companies, national labs, or universities, locally and internationally

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Asset: Master’s degree relevant to the position)
  • 3+ years of industrial experience relevant to the position
  • Good knowledge in the field of EAF
  • Experience in areas such as: modal behavior, metal fatigue, random vibrations, sinusoidal vibrations, shocks and bolted assemblies
  • Mastery of FEA simulation software (Asset: Ansys, Altair)
  • Experience with CAD software (Asset: NX)
  • Demonstrated experience in experimental investigation
  • Interest and ability to develop and use multidisciplinary skills, both theoretical and practical, to achieve results
  • Sensitivity to intellectual property protection
  • Project management skills: Assess technical risks and workload, build and maintain a schedule and budget, communicate contingencies and plan mitigations
  • Curiosity, resourcefulness, autonomy, and results-oriented decision making
  • Humility, resilience, and openness to criticism and ideas
  • Functional English and French
  • Asset: Knowledge of CFD analysis
  • Asset: Experience in programming tools
  • Asset: Understanding of electric motor operation
  • Asset: Experience in the use of TRLs
  • Asset: Experience in operational safety
